Hello
I’m Ray.
I love helping others discover more of God through the Bible.
A great joy for me is seeing someone having a “Whoa!” moment when they discover something profound in the Bible, especially when I’m the one helping them discover it ;) .
I dream and hope that those who I teach are able to apply the Bible to their calling in ways I could never dream of.
The Discipleship Bible School (DBS)
YWAM has a handful of Bible Schools and I have been a part of a few of them. So why I am passionate about this particular school? It’s kind of like asking someone why are they passionate about their kids, the child has some of their DNA in them. The DBS has some of my DNA in it. In 2011 while sitting in the Biblical Studies office in Kona, HI the department leader gathered a few of us to help brainstorm a new Bible School. YWAM has thousands of youth coming into the mission every year ready to serve the Lord, yet they have little to no Bible knowledge, whether they grew up in the church or not. Many are not ready for our long and very academic Bible schools. Many are not even pursuing biblical studies before entering the mission field. We recognized t a new need in missionary training and we want to fill it!
We created a 12-week Bible Overview school, its purpose was to take someone who had little exposure to the Bible and give them an understanding of the storyline of the Bible. Students read the entire Bible in chronological order and learn about the background and themes of books from experienced teachers and staff. The school involves assignments and work but it is designed to be interactive, fun, and enjoyed! It’s not just a course you have to get through to get a degree. At the end of the school, students present an hour-long Bible Overview to show they know how the story of the Bible fits together and can share it with others. The school can take someone who knows almost nothing about the Bible and train them to confidently share about the Bible for over an hour! The school is also life-changing for students. Imagine if you could take three months to just read and learn about the Bible. What do you think God would do in your life? The DBS is a school where: I get to actively interact with students, change lives, give students something to share, and has my “DNA” in it. That is why I am passionate about the DBS. (I even came up with the name).
In 2014, I took the DBS to Europe. I lead the school on a YWAM ship, sailing from Israel to Malta. I helped bring the DBS to England by co-leading a school in 2017. I have also taught as a guest speaker in DBS schools in Europe, North and South America.
